GOING FOR IT: An Experimental / Amateur Talent Show
March 2 @ 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Going For It is a space to play the one song you know on guitar, to try the stand up act you’ve always wanted to perform, to lead a group in song for the first time, to draw live caricatures because, for some reason, you’ve always wanted to. Performance art? Untangling knots? Who’s to say! Creativity is, obviously, encouraged! Here, expertise is superfluous and perhaps even discouraged. This space is an invitation to share the hidden corners (if it feels safe) and/or try new things. It’s an exercise in community care, collective joy, creativity, and bravery. It’s a space where everyone wants you to succeed. It’s a space to go for it.
Vulnerability and experimentation can come in a billion forms, however big or small, so participants are invited to self-assess their own participation. Without guilting or pressuring or judging, the intention is that a majority of attendees will share something.
This is an all-ages event. Ukulele and popcorn on hand, BYO everything else (including non-alcoholic beverages and instruments). No racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, xenophobic, anti semitic, fatphobic, ableist, or any other oppressive content will be welcome here. This is a sex and body positive space. Haters stay home. Everyone else—we can’t wait to meet you there!
Access notes: While the main space is wheelchair accessible, the bathroom is not. Seating is primarily folding chairs, with a few chairs with arm rests and cushions available. If you’d like to come but have other access needs including language interpretation, please please let get in touch and we will work together to make it happen.
