Roses are red, violets are endless hues of lavender, white, yellow, periwinkle. The classic love letter is commercialized, commodified, chocolate-coated, pink-enameled and bouquet-shaped. A prewritten Hallmark bookmark for February.
What if we deconstructed it? Examined it? Fractured it? Spoke to it like a friend? A lover? A stranger? A child? Someone who has hurt us?
In this generative writing workshop, which will double in some ways as a meditative writing workshop, we will learn together to write a kind of love letter that comes from a tender, secret place we must work a little bit to find.
We will consider: how do words enter the body? How does being seen affect the heart? What is relationship? What is vulnerability? Am I a friend to myself? How can I show someone I see them? How do we support each other? How might I make peace? How might I love a stranger? What is keeping the fire lit?
